GLYCERINE SUPPOSITORIES

Glycerine Suppositories to help with Constipation

I was quite surprised when a couple of weeks ago, I was speaking to a lady in her 50’s about how useful glycerine suppositories can be, especially for helping to soften impacted poo in the rectum, and she said she’d never heard of them.

If you are suffering with constipation, a glycerine suppository can, sometimes, help empty the bowels.  These safe, easy to use jelly-like suppositories can be purchased from all chemists, and most chemists have their own brand.  Boots do a good one, and very reasonably priced. (£2.99 for 12)

Glycerol is a mild irritant and so stimulates the bowel to contract.  Glycerine also helps soften the hardened poo inside the rectum, making it easier to push out. After insertion in the rectum, they take approx 15 – 30 minutes to work.  Always follow the guidelines on the box.
