The UK Colonic Association – 25th Annual Conference

COLONIC IRRIGATION AND IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME

25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN COLON CARE

On Saturday, 9th June at The University of London, The UK Colonic Association held its 25th Annual Conference.  As well as Vice Chairwoman of the Association,  I also wear the ‘hat’ of Conference Organiser.

This is the fourth time I’ve organised the Annual Colonic Conference, but I wanted to make it a bit special this year, as we are celebrating 25 years as a members-only, not-for-profit Association.  It  has taken me the best part of 12 months to organise this Conference, despite having a very busy Clinic to run, and tweeting, facebooking and blogging for UK Colonics.  However, it was all worth it, and more!  What a great day everyone had – speakers, delegates and exhibitors alike.  All vowing to return to our 2013 Conference.

The theme of the day was Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and we had Professor Nick Read, Gastroenterologist and Medical Advisor to The IBS Network come to talk to us about “IBS. What is it and what can we do about it?”  We also had Herbalist, Edward Joy from BioNutri talk to us about “Herbs to treat the symptoms of IBS”.

We had more exhibitors than ever before, and I had to turn a few away due to lack of space.

Special 25th Anniversary delegate bags were made, with over £30’s worth of free gifts generously donated from a variety of health-care companies.

We had the whole day filmed for posterity, and this video will be available to view, within the next week, on the ARCH YouTube channel.

I can now put my feet up for a while (fat chance!!) and take things easy. Next month I will be opening another colonic clinic in a GP practice in Mapperley.  I have been awaiting planning permission to have a new toilet built, but this has now been passed, and the builders start work next month.  All being well,  this Clinic will be open some time in August.  I will still be working from Arnold, and perhaps one or two days a week at the Mapperley Clinic, to begin with.  I will keep you posted.

I had a bit of a giggle with Mark Dennison last week,  one of the presenters on Radio Nottingham.  They were talking about people who are having to work longer because of the increase in the state pension age and the cost of living.  I tweeted that I would probably drop dead with a speculum in  my hand.  He read it out on the Radio.  So funny. I can’t think of anything worse than having to retire at 65 (or 66 in my case).  I hope to work (but perhaps part-time in a few years) for as long as I can. I enjoy my work, and can’t imagine not being able to carry on doing it as long as I want to.
